The Bijlmer disaster is the name given to an air disaster in which a Boeing 747 cargo plane belonging to the Israeli airline El Al crashed into the Groeneveen and Klein-Kruitberg flats in Amsterdam’s Bijlmermeer on October 4, 1992. The disaster took the lives of 43 people, including the plane’s three-member crew and one passenger.
