Morbi bridge collapse: A death trap for Indian children

At least 141 people have died after a pedestrian suspension bridge collapsed in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Sunday evening. Most of those who died were women, children or elderly. The 230m (754ft) bridge on the Machchu river in Morbi was built in the 19th Century. It had reopened just a week ago after repairs. The Gujarat government has opened an investigation into the tragedy.

South Korea has declared a period of national mourning for the victims of a crowd surge during Halloween celebrations in the capital Seoul.
President Yoon Suk-yeol visited the narrow alleyway in the Itaewon district where people were trapped and crushed, and at least 151 were killed. Authorities are warning the death toll may rise further, with more victims in critical condition. An investigation is underway into what caused the tragedy.
